Critics agree that this remake of the 1960s gorefest "2,000 Maniacs" is better than the original, but that may be faint praise indeed.

After all, the original didn't become a cult classic among horror goons by being a great film. Robert Englund, whose iconic turn as the nightmare-invading Freddie Kruger is about to be redone by some new guy, stars as a bloodthirsty southern mayor. When a group of naive northern kids show up for a celebration of southern heritage in Englund's town, they soon realize that they are destined to be slaughtered and fricasseed like a stuck pig.
This is the type of offering that helps Hulu to become a go-to destination for a niche audience. Right now, the pickings are still a little slim for horror aficionados, but the day is coming when they'll have enough rubber guts and fake blood to make the most hardcore fans swoon.
